Interculturele communicatie

Workshop ICC (Intercultural Cooperation and Communication)

General information
This one-day training is designed especially for TU/e personnel by CLIC. Its goals are to help you communicate and work successfully across national and cultural boundaries in a Dutch academic environment. The average group size is 12 participants, with mixed nationalities, backgrounds and positions, and the training includes Dutch employees who serve as a reference for Dutch academic culture.

Objectives
Develop cultural awareness and group dynamics to work successfully across cultures in the Dutch academic context of TU/e. The training is based on 4-steps:

  • Recognising cultural differences by developing cultural awareness: know who you are and what your cultural frame of reference is.  Being aware that there are cultural differences and how they influence daily life.
  • Respecting cultural differences by showing tolerance, patience, curiosity and developing empathy and open-mindedness.
  • Reconciling cultural differences by developing intercultural competence, i.e. reaching a win-win situation and developing best practices for an effective communication and work context within the group.
  • Realising the reconciliation of cultural differences by ensuring the measures taken in the individual and group action plans are rooted into procedures and best practices and hence will be easily reproduced.

Methodology
These 4 steps form the backbone of the training and are part of the whole learning process. Various activities including simulations, presentations and group discussions run through the whole day. A reader is also available at the end of the training.
