The organising universities have extensive growth, nanofabrication and optical characterisation facilities, which make them leading centres for photonics research.
They are also located in technology-intensive areas, hosting high-tech industrial research and development centres such as the High Tech Campus Eindhoven, the Cambridge Science Park and the TechnoPark Zürich, therefore offering excellent career opportunities for PhDs.
