5. Coaching

‘Students will have much freedom to choose. It is known that this causes people to doubt and think longer before they make a decision. And so a lecturer will coach them. This starts with an intake interview for pre-university high-school (VWO) pupils somewhere between May and July. It is followed by several interviews during the academic year. This will involve reflecting on what the student has done. Students follow a major, that much is clear. But what can they do alongside this? How can they prepare for the prospects they have in mind? We will help them with this. A student who is well prepared to study and who knows why he or she is studying, will complete the program more quickly and that pays dividends,’ Lex Lemmens

Project 5.1: Coaching

Project leader:  Dr. K.S. (Karen) Ali (director, STU)
Project secretary:  Dr. A.A. (Diana) Vinke (policy official, education TU/e Bachelor College in training and member of the management team)

Result: advice about:

  • an annual calendar  for coaching (first, second and third year), that answers the question: when and by which type of coach will coaching occur and with what objectives;
    a practical design for an intake procedure, which will include a Digital Assessment;
  • an overview of coaching instruments that answers the question: which coaching instruments will be used and when (such as: digital assessment, questionnaires, portfolio, logbook, OASE);
    a practical design for professionalization pathways for different types of coach;
  • the number of coaches needed, their availability and the conditions prompting their deployment;
    the way in which intake and coaching can play a role in gaining student loyalty.

In the advice, consideration should be given to the likely financial consequences (one-time and/or long term) of its implementation.
