There are two types of recommendation: a positive and a negative binding recommendation. The Examinations Committee for your Bachelor’s program makes the recommendation at the end of your first year.
Bachelor program, students:
A positive recommendation (cohort 2011 and earlier)
• If you pass all your first year courses in your first study year you will obtain 60 credits, which obviously leads to a positive recommendation.
• If you don’t pass all your courses, but you have gained 40 credits or more youwill get a positive recommendation.
• If you obtain more than 30, but less than 40 credits, you may receive a positive recommendation, depending on the Bachelor’s program you are taking. Many programs have additional requirements, e.g. you may have to pass a minimum number of courses within a specific cluster of courses. If you have met the additional requirements for your Bachelor’s program, you will receive a positive recommendation. At the same time, you will also receive extra support from the department in the form of a study contract. This is an agreement between you and your Department to plan your second year.
A positive recommendation (cohort 2012 and later)
• If you pass all your first year courses in your first study year you will obtain 60 credits, which obviously leads to a positive recommendation.
• If you don’t pass all your courses, but you have gained 30 credits or more, you will get a positive recommendation provided that you have gained at least 15 credits of course which are part of your major. The courses which are part of your major can be found here.
• If you have gained 30 credits or more, but less than 40 credits, you will get a positive recommendation (provided that you have gained at least 15 credits of your major courses). At the same time, you will also receive extra support from the department in the form of a study contract. This is an agreement between you and your Department to plan your second year.
A negative binding recommendation
If you obtain less than 30 credits in your first year, or you do manage to obtain 30 credits or more but fail to meet the additional requirements (as mentioned above), you will receive a negative recommendation. The recommendation is binding: this means that you will be unable to continue with your Bachelor’s program and you will be unable to enroll in this specific TU/e Bachelor’s program for three years.
HBO Transition students (as of cohort 2012):
A positive recommendation
You will receive a positive recommendation if you manage to complete at least 75% of your HBO transition program within one year. You are allowed to enroll into the Master program when you have passed all courses of the HBO transition program.
A negative binding recommendation
You will receive a negative binding recommendation if you do not manage to complete 75% of your HBO transition program within one year. You cannot continue your HBO transition program at TU/e, you are not allowed to re-enroll for next academic year.
