The TU/e Library has from its establishment up to the present consisted of a central library, department libraries and several supporting sections. As from September 2012, the IEC and the TU/e Library will be located in a single redeveloped facility in the center of the TU/e campus. Work is now underway to convert the current W-hal building for this purpose.

The redeveloped W-Hal building
The redeveloped W-hal building, located in the center of the TU/e campus, is to be the address of all kinds of facilities and services for students. The new Library will provide a wealth of space for individual and collective study. Also located in the W-hal will be the ICTheek, the Language Training Center, the Notebook Service Center, the lecture note outlet, a student cafe and a number of smaller classrooms which may be used by several TU/e departments.
Arrangement
The entrance to the Library will be on the 1st floor, at the level of the walking bridges. Part of the Library book collection and the study seats will be on the ground floor.
A new basement below the ground level of the existing W-hal will house the bulk of the book collection and a number of (silent) study seats. Large ceiling openings will visually connect the basement with the upper spaces.
A completely new building element atop the redeveloped W-hal is to become the new location for the department of Mathematics and Computer Science.

MetaForum building highest point celebration (09-01-2012)
A display of fireworks set off from the roof of the new MetaForum building formed part of the TU/e New Year celebration. It also marked the attainment of the highest point of the converted former W-hal, which will be the new location of the centralized IEC - TU/e Library as from September 2012. A musical performance accompanied the fireworks, as well as the Tesla Coil lightning installation built by TU/e student Roy Piepers. This installation had already been on show during the recent GLOW festival of light in Eindhoven.
