Family reunion

It is possible for TU/e to apply for "Direct family reunion". This means that TU/e can apply for both you and your family for an MVV, in order to enable your family to travel together with you to the Netherlands.

When you are already in the Netherlands and your family is still in the country of origin you can apply for "family reunion". If you are a "Kennismigrant" or "Onderzoeker EU-Richtlijn" this can be done by the accelerated procedure through the Expat Center Brabant  which takes about 2 weeks. This is the so-called "two-stop shop procedure". Right after arrival your family member(s) can collect the approval of stay during their appointment at the Expat Center Brabant. 2 Weeks later the residence permit(s) will be ready.

(If you are not a Kennismigrant/Onderzoeker EU-Richtlijn this, however, is not possible via the accelerated procedure, which means that it takes about 3 months to get a visa approval from IND).

!!Important: as from July 1st 2012 it is not allowed anymore to apply for family reunion with the unmarried partner. It is possible only to apply for family reunion if you are married. This is a result of an amendmend of the Dutch immigrations law.

You need to meet the following criteria for family reunion:

  • The minimum age for both partners is 21.
  • Full time TOIO's and PhD students on TU/e pay roll meet the minimum income criteria for family reunion. If you are not on payroll, your monthly nett salary has to be at least € 1.563,--.
  • Your contract needs to be valid for at least 6 months (knowledge-migrants/Onderzoekers EU-Richtlijn) and 1 more year (for non-knowledge-migrants).

The application needs to be done by your employer. So please make an appointment with the backofficers:
