Design Science grants to Licensee a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use MathType and its accompanying user documentation (hereinafter "Software") on computers owned, operated and within the
immediate control of Licensee’s faculty, staff and students.
MathType is an equation editor with which you can create mathematical formulas in documents, especially in Microsoft Word. It is an extended version of the Equation Editor that comes with Microsoft Office. After installation you'll find in Word a new toolbar that lets you activate MathType.
As well as with Word, MathType can co-operate with a wide variety of software, among them Acrobat, LaTeX, graphical programs, presentation programs.

- MathType 5.2a and higher can co-operate with MS Office 2003 (version 5.2 can't do that).
- Version 5.2c solves the “No equations were found and/or updated” problem that can occur when using Word 2003 or Word 2002 (XP) Service Pack 2.
- If you have already installed version 5.2 or 5.2a, you can simply install version 5.2c over your current MathType installation.
