In addition of the University Council there are a number of other participatory bodies at the TU/e: the Services Council and the Department Councils. The Departmental Councils mainly deal with strategic and policy-related matters at department level, e.g. departmental budgets, the Education and Examination Regulations, and building management.

Students of course have a clear idea of what they and their fellow students would like to see changed or improved within the department. That means not only educational activities, but also for example facilities, such as opening hours or internet connections, and the organization of the program in general. The department Council addresses all these issues, as well as the department's organizational structure and financial policy. The University Council conducts regular consultations with the Department Councils.

The Department Councils comprise five staff members and five students. These members are chosen by the students in the department.
