'Girl wearing a hat' 1949-1950
Location: Vertigo, library
The 'Girl wearing a hat' (1950) by Theo von der Nahmer is a tender, though romanticized picture, despite its naturalistic form. It does have the typical trademark of Von der Nahmer: the play of light and dark.
Van der Nahmer (1917-1989) follows the Art Academy in Den Bosch and studies at the Art Academy in The Hague from 1938 to 1940. That is where he stays to live and work. The Hague is also the place of his best-known statue, 'Eline Vere', the main character in the novel by that name written by the Hague writer Louis Couperus. In addition to bronze sculptures he also makes memorial tablets, for instance for the PTT building in Dinteloord. Von der Nahmer is a traditional sculptor, who remains true to his own style and does not venture into experiments.
