Iektje Meijer

Location: Helix (floor 3), Hall Hoofdgebouw

Iektje Meijer (1954) always had a passion for painting, but first she trained as a nurse, which profession she practiced for many years. In 1995 she went to the Art Academy in Arendonk and she graduated in 2005 with painting as her special subject. Although the works that hang here are recognizably figurative, they are characterized by the loose way of painting and the predilection for abstraction.

"I have only just begun and my work is still in a state of flux" she says about it herself, and her latest canvases – she nearly always works with acrylic paint on cotton – are totally abstract. About the work that is on show here she says: "They are paintings with a wink. As my husband works here, I am slightly familiar with the academic world. When professors doff their robes, they too are just ordinary people."

Both the Department of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry and the Office of Doctoral Presentations and Academic Ceremonies have purchased work from her.
