Sex, Drugs and Rock’n'Roll, there was only one man in the Netherlands in whom all of these were totally united: Herman Brood. In 1961 he went to the Art Academy in Arnhem, but then music got the better of art. Brood (1946-2001) became a pianist in the early 1960s with the legendary blues band Cuby and the Blizzards. Ten years later he became world-famous with his own band, Wild Romance. After a turbulent (musical) career Brood returned to art and created hundreds of work at a very high pace.

In 1998 he lived up to his fast image by making two wall paintings within an hour’s time at Chemical Engineering and Chemistry, with an assistant. The initiative for this had been taken by prof. dr. Bert Meijer, assisted by 'Appie' Alberts, former assistant of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry and a friend of Brood’s.
